There are a number of reasons why many women choose to have a boudoir session. The most common reason being a wedding day gift for their future spouse.
However, in my experience, there are other reasons why many women choose to have a boudoir session and it has nothing to do with men or a spouse.
I’ve photographed women that have battled illnesses that had taken a toll on their body and had left them feeling as if they were no longer themselves. A boudoir session goes a long way helping women rediscovering the notion the most important relationship they have is with their sense of self and their body, especially after battling cancer or an eating disorders.
Boudoir photography helps immensely with redeveloping a healthy, body positive, image of the self. By fighting through health challenges this sense of body positivity has the effect of nurturing a deeper love for the self with strength at the core.
I’ve also photographed women who’ve ended destructive relationships. The boudoir experience helps in rebuilding self-esteem and reclaiming power. They are not whatever they’ve been made to believe about themselves. They will see they are strong, and that’s what makes them beautiful.
Let’s face it; we all want to feel the pat on our back and be told we’re doing a great job but most times we don’t get that. A boudoir session is that pat on the back for the woman who works hard to hold it down, 24/7, for her kids, for other family members, and most of all, for herself.
Somehow and through no fault of yours, you’ve ended up placing everyone’s needs before your own. A boudoir session is a perfect way to celebrate yourself! To take in the awesomeness that is you and express the notion that if there’s anyone more deserving of your love, it is you.
